Region 8 Establishes Director’s Award
UAW Region 8 has established the “Director’s Award” to recognize UAW Region 8 members whose actions have distinguished themselves in service to our membership. “Union membership is about working together for the collective good,” states Region 8 Director Tim Smith. “The Director Awards are designed to recognize those members who have went above and beyond what was expected for their fellow members.”
This year’s Director’s Award were presented at the Winter CAP meeting in Nashville, Tennessee. This year’s recipients were Region 8 members who served on the top negotiating committees for Big Three Bargaining and retired UAW International President and UAW Region 8 Director Ray Curry. President Curry was unable to attend the meeting but sent his thanks.
UAW Local 862 is home to two of those who worked on the top committee for negotiations at Ford. Jon Jaggers and Brandon Reisinger worked on the agreement at Ford. Josh Fisher of Local 1649 and Tammy Wiser of Local 868 worked on the Stellantis Agreement. Kenny Hines of Local 276 was a member of the GM top committee.
“Brother Ray Curry is an inspiration to everyone in Region 8,” Director Smith added. “We wish him well in his retirement. Those who worked on the top committees made a huge sacrifice for these historic agreements. These members spent four months in Detroit without a single visit home throughout the duration of the contract talks. Congratulations to each and every one of you and thank you for a job well done.” |
